Gameday Central
DAVIS, Calif. - Following a near-week-off after winning last Thursday's home opener, UC Davis will compete in three games within a four-day timespan as one of four teams that comprise the Red Wolves Classic's field.
The Aggies will open tournament play in Thursday's 3 p.m. PT matchup versus Idaho, face the host school Friday at 5:30 p.m. PT, before ending this event with Sunday morning's 9 a.m. PT game against VMI.
A Facebook Live stream of Friday's road game against Arkansas State is available on the Red Wolves' account. Visit UCDavisAggies.com for all audio, Facebook Live and live stats links.
This is the first time men's basketball will face the Vandals since visiting Moscow, Idaho, three seasons ago, and the inaugural meeting against the Red Wolves and Keydets.
Greg Wong will provide the courtside call for all three games from Jonesboro, Ark. Money 105.5 FM will broadcast Thursday's and Friday's game, Sports 1140 KHTK will air Sunday morning's tournament finale.
This tournament will open the start of a road-heavy schedule for men's basketball since it will not return to the Pavilion until it hosts Northern Illinois on Dec. 7. Between that game, and its home opener, UC Davis will compete in this tournament — the only one on this season's slate — face Sacramento State on Nov. 20 in the annual Causeway Cup matchup hosted by the Golden 1 Center, travel to Portland next Saturday (for the first of four games against West Coast Conference squads this season), battle Cal and Utah during Thanksgiving week, and take on the Lumberjacks (Dec. 4) before returning to Bob Hamilton Court.
Adding to an already busy schedule is the fact that the opening day of exams is slated for Dec. 9. As is the case each quarter, the Aggies will not compete during Finals Week. Until that take place, the Aggies will face a challenging slate that will provide its newcomers with vital experience against tough competition.
The Red Wolves Classic will give newer Aggies a sense of what to expect at the Big West Tournament — an event that forces teams squaring off in the championship game to compete in three contests in as many days. This tournament will also teach these newcomers how to prepare for an intense block of activity with a short period of time, take care of their bodies and successfully navigate the challenges associated with a quick turnaround from one game to the next.
