Aggie alum Scott Moak named P.A. announcer

Sacramento Kings' PA voice returns to alma mater; Aggies to honor Larry Swanson on Saturday

DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis alumnus Scott Moak will take over as the public address announcer for all Aggie home football games, the athletics department reported in advance of this Saturday's Homecoming game. Perhaps best known as the P.A. voice of the Sacramento Kings, Moak replaces former associate athletics director Larry Swanson, who retires from the mic after having served the Aggies in that role since the early 2000s.

A 1995 graduate of UC Davis, Moak was a member of the KDVS Sports crew alongside Eric Hasseltine (now the radio voice of the Memphis Grizzlies) as an undergrad. He then returned to his high school alma mater of John F. Kennedy High School to help his father, who served as the director of athletics, as an announcer for football and basketball games. Moak's career on the mic grew from there: American River College, Sacramento State, plus the Sacramento Knights professional indoor soccer team.

In 2002, Moak took over as the Kings' P.A. announcer, a role for which he is best recognized by area sports fans. However, he has also lent his voice to the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, Pac-12 Conference basketball tournaments and NCAA Championship events, the Sacramento Monarchs (WNBA) and Sacramento River Cats (PCL), plus radio and television commercials and public service announcements. Currently, Moak serves on the Sacramento Republic FC's front office as Vice President of Community Investment, while co-hosting the Studio40 morning show on Sacramento's Fox affiliate, KTXL Fox 40.

A 2016 inductee into the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame, Swanson's voice graced Aggie football, basketball, gymnastics and wrestling competitions both during and since his 24-year tenure as associate athletics director. He also served as the auctioneer for the Aggie Auction from 2002-10, and as the emcee for the majority of CAAHOF induction ceremonies.

Since the opening of UC Davis Health Stadium in 2007, Swanson has provided the P.A. voice of every home football game, including the 2016 Homecoming game against Northern Colorado when he was recognized as a member of the Hall of Fame induction class. He simply handed the mic off to former Aggie Pack emcee Scott Judson, who announced the halftime ceremony. Swanson then returned to the booth to resume his duties in the second half.

"UC Davis Athletics salutes Larry Swanson for almost 50 years of service to the university, both as an administrator then as a volunteer. He was instrumental in launching Team Aggie and the Aggie Pack in the early 1990s, and his fondness for the UC Davis community remains strong today," said Blue.

Swanson, who retired from the university in 2008, will remain as the P.A. of Aggie men's basketball, whose home season begins on November 7 against William Jessup. He will be honored for his service at Saturday's game against Cal Poly – coincidentally, the alma mater of his daughter, Janna.

"It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve our student-athletes as the P.A. voice for Aggie football, and I look forward to continuing in that role during the upcoming men's basketball season," said Swanson. "Furthermore, as an Aggie fan, it is a proud moment to have an alumnus as accomplished as Scott Moak at the mic, and I welcome him back to UC Davis."

The 45th meeting between UC Davis and Cal Poly, and the 16th matchup of the "Battle For The Golden Horseshoe," kicks off at 4 p.m. at UC Davis Health Stadium. Tickets are available by following the link above or clicking here.
