DAVIS, Calif. – Senior psychology major
Bryce Rodgers racked up 11 tackles in No. 22 UC Davis' 36-20 loss to No. 4 Weber State at home Saturday afternoon.
In between the first and second quarters, UC Davis football honored Aggie legend Bo Eason by adding his name to the Aggie Pride Wall. Recognized for his success as an Aggie on the field, and off it once he graduated, the Aggie All-American, All-Pro safety for the Houston Oilers, actor and motivational speaker joins Ken O'Brien as the only names featured on the Wall.
The loss moved the Aggies record to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Senior communication major
Jake Maier led UC Davis' passing attack with 160 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Sophomore biochemistry and molecular biology major
Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. totaled 66 yards to lead the Aggies' ground attack in the game, picking up 5.1 yards per carry along the way.
Freshman biochemistry & molecular biology major
Orlando Ornelas reeled in two catches for 54 yards.
Rodgers led the Aggies defensively with his 11 tackles, nine of them solo, and 1.5 TFL, and one sack.
Sophomore human development major
Devon King added four tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one interception and freshman
Josiah Suani tacked on 2.0 TFL.
Weber State opened the scoring to go on top 7-0, but UC Davis responded to tie it up at 7-7.
Sophomore economics major
Jaylin White returned a kick 100 yards to score with 11:29 remaining in the first quarter. With that run, he became the third Aggie in the program's recorded history to return a kickoff from one end zone to the other.
After Weber State fought back to take a 19-7 lead, UC Davis got on the scoreboard again to close the gap and make it a 19-14 deficit.
The Aggies ended a seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive when junior human development major
Jared Harrell caught a 19-yard touchdown reception from Maier with 7:46 remaining in the third quarter.
UC Davis' deficit grew after Weber State scored to increase its lead to 36-14, but the Aggies scored again to close the gap and make it a 36-20 deficit. Maier hit junior
Christian Skeptaris on a two-yard touchdown catch with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter to end an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive.
The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Neither team scored again in the game.
UC Davis' defense held up fairly well against the run, limiting Weber State to 166 yards on the ground.
UC Davis took care of business in the red zone, scoring 13 points on two trips inside Weber State's 20-yard line.
On a bye next week, UC Davis will return to action on November 9 when it travels to Portland State for a 2:05 p.m. Big Sky matchup.
