DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis gymnast Cortney Cunningham captured the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Week award of the 2019 gymnastics season, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The human development major from Hayward, California, and Pacific West Gymnastics made her collegiate debut in Sunday's NorCal Classic at Sacramento State. She hit a 9.750 on vault to help the Aggies to a 48.750 team total, plus a 9.575 on uneven bars in the meet's opening rotation.
UC Davis scored a 194.950 in the NorCal, outdueling MPSF rivals San Jose State and Sacramento State and finishing a close second to Stanford's 195.175 in the team standings.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday in the four-team Collegiate Challenge Powered By Under Armour, held at the Anaheim Convention Center. UC Davis takes on UCLA, California and Michigan State in a rare meet held on a podium. March-in is scheduled for 7 p.m. The team will also hold an alumni gathering after the meet at the adjacent Hilton Anaheim.
