Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bigelow logs double-digit saves against Longwood

UC Davis is slated to resume action on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET in a neutral-site matchup against the La Salle Explorers. The Aggies will then cap off their stay in Virginia with another neutral-site game on Sunday (Sept. 9) against Davidson at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET.

FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow recorded a nine-save second half en route to a season-high 11-save effort against the Lancers, while freshman Brooke Sanchez registered her career first shot on goal. Trailing 0-2 at halftime the Aggies forced a pair of saves by the Longwood goalkeeper, but could not get on the board, lifting the Lancers to a 3-0 victory over UC Davis on Thursday afternoon at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field in Farmville, Va.

Bigelow's 11-save performance against the Lancers tops her previous season best of seven, tallied on two occasions against Providence (Aug. 26) and Miami (Sept. 1), bringing her 2018 total to 31 saves. Last season, Bigelow recorded seven double-digit efforts, including a 15-save performance in the second game of the year against No. 5 Syracuse—a mark that ranks tied for third in program history for single game saves.

The Aggies fell to 2-3 on the season and will face the La Salle Explorers in their next match on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET. The Lancers improved to a 2-1 overall mark and will cap off their two-game homestand on Sunday vs. La Salle.

The Lancers were first to get on board on Thursday afternoon, taking a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of play.

The Aggies threatened in the 14th minute, drawing a penalty corner and forcing a save by Longwood off the shot by junior forward Tatiana Arias. But a corner for the Lancers late in the half would lead to a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

Sophomore Carli Colyer and freshman Brooke Sanchez forced a pair of saves by the Longwood goalkeeper in the second period, but a third and final goal by the Lancer offense would prove too much to overcome for the Aggies.

Of Bigelow's 11 saves on the day, nine were logged in the second half of play.
