Aggies fall to No. 25 Stanford

Box Score STANFORD, Calif. — Redshirt sophomore Sara Janetzky led the UC Davis offense with a season-best two shots on goal, but after No. 25 Stanford jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime the nationally ranked Cardinal never looked back, claiming a 5-0 win in the Aggies' America East Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Turf in Stanford, Calif.

Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow logged five saves on the day, while senior back Kelley Kramer picked up her first defensive save of the season.

The Aggies fell to 6-7 on the season with an 0-1 league mark, while the Cardinal improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Cardinal jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Sunday afternoon, scoring three of their four goals off the stick of sophomore forward Corinne Zanolli.

But the UC Davis offense continued to keep the pressure on the Stanford defense, taking three shots on-goal and earning two corners in the first half. The Aggies would force four more saves by Stanford goalkeeper, Kelsey Bing, before the end of the second half but UC Davis could not make up the deficit.

The Aggies resume America East play on Friday (Oct. 5) hosting Pacific for a 3 p.m. game at the Aggies Field Hockey Facility.
