CORVALLIS, Ore. — Entering the night as one of a handful of teams still unbeaten on the year, the No. 17 UC Davis men's soccer team survived its latest test on the road on Monday, getting a goal by junior managerial economics major
Marte Formico in the 72nd minute to forge a 1-1 draw at Oregon State at Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore.
In the first meeting between the two programs since 2011, the Aggies moved to 4-0-2 overall on the year with the result, continuing its best start since the 2014 squad opened with a 4-0-7 record. Oregon State moved to 3-1-2 overall on the year with the draw, remaining unbeaten at home (2-0-2) against UC Davis in the series.
The Aggies' defense bent, but did not break, on a cool Corvallis night, withstanding a barrage of 16 shots from the Beavers' offense, but limiting Oregon State to just four shots on goal for the match. For Formico, it was his second goal in the team's last three contests after scoring the game-winner against CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 2, while Kibunguchy notched his first point of the season and second career assist.
Both teams were relatively quiet for the rest of regulation as the Aggies fought off a challenge in the first overtime, blocking a pair of shots before a third sailed high in a span of 52 seconds at the beginning of the period, while Kibunguchy had a shot off a corner by freshman managerial economics major
