OPENING WHISTLE: Unbeaten following its season-opening weekend in Nebraska, the UC Davis men's soccer team competes in front of the hometown faithful for the first time this season before heading back out on the road to face a future Big West Conference rival to highlight week two of the regular season. The Aggies welcome Bay Area rival San Jose State to Aggie Soccer Field on Friday (Aug. 31) at 2:30 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader with the women's team, before heading south to take on CSU Bakersfield on Sunday (Sept. 2) at 7 p.m.

IN THE POLLS: Neither UC Davis, San Jose State, nor CSU Bakersfield, are ranked nationally entering this weekend's matches… The Aggies are ranked No. 6 in the Far West Region according to United Soccer Coaches.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS: San Jose State is 0-1-1 overall to start the season following a scoreless draw against three-time defending national champion Stanford and a 1-0 loss to CSUN last week… The Spartans were picked to finish fourth in the Western Athletic Conference preseason poll after reaching the conference tournament championship match… Senior defender Andy Rios, a second-team All-WAC honoree, was named to the preseason all-conference team, while goalkeeper Alex Clewis was recently named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high 11 saves against the Cardinal and three more against the Matadors.

SERIES NOTES: San Jose State leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 4-2-1… The Spartans are unbeaten in the last three meetings (2-0-1), including a 3-2 win at home last season… UC Davis hasn't won in the series since a 1-0 overtime win in 2010… Three of the last four meetings have gone to overtime… Five of the seven all-time meetings have been decided by a single goal, with another finishing in a scoreless draw in 2016... The Aggies are 2-0-1 against the Spartans at home dating back to the 1998 season.

ABOUT THE ROADRUNNERS: CSU Bakersfield opened the season with a 2-0 record following a 3-1 victory over Bethesda and a 3-0 decision against Pacific on Monday (Aug. 27) to start a four-match home stand… The Roadrunners will host Sacramento State on Friday before welcoming the Aggies… CSU Bakersfield was picked to finish seventh in the 12-team WAC preseason poll… Second-team All-WAC selection Detre Bell, who has allowed a single goal thus far this fall, returns in goal for the 'Runners after posting a five shutouts and a 1.61 goals against average a season ago… Honorable mention all-conference selections Jeremie Charron and Sebastian Mentel also return — the latter leading the team in points (14), shots on goal (13), and goals (six), last fall… Junior Ryan Goldsmith has scored twice thus far this season to lead Bakersfield — one of five to find the back of the net.

SERIES NOTES: CSU Bakersfield leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 10-8-3, but the Aggies have won the last two meetings: a 3-2 victory in Bakersfield in 2016 and a 2-1 win at home in 2017… UC Davis is 2-6-2 against the Roadrunners in Bakersfield dating back to the 1992 season, snapping an eight-match winless streak with victories in 2014 (2-1 in 2OT) and 2016… Each of the last four meetings have been decided by a single goal.

LAPSLEY NAMED BIG WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior global disease biology major Wallis Lapsley has been named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, while also earning a spot on both the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week, following a stellar start to the 2018 season between the pipes for the Aggies. • The Aggies haven't allowed a goal in their last 318 regular season minutes dating back to the 82nd minute of their Big West Tournament semifinal against CSUN last year. That number grows to 498 minutes when you include the team's two exhibition wins in 2018.
• Senior managerial economics major Roy Boateng (No. 42) and sophomore managerial economics major Nabi Kibunguchy (No. 82) were listed among Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Players to Watch for 2018
• Alumni goalkeeper Armando Quezada is the latest former #AggieInThePros after inking a deal with the USL's San Antonio FC on Aug. 25 for the rest of the season
• UC Davis is unbeaten after week one for the third time in the last five seasons and the fifth time in the program's Division I history
• Last week's win at Omaha was the Aggies' first on opening day since a 1-0 victory over UNLV to start the 2012 campaign and only the third in the program's Division I history
• UC Davis opened with back-to-back shutouts for the second time in three years, joining the 2016 squad that drew against San Jose State (0-0) and posted a win at Pacific (2-0)
• Junior global disease biology major Wallis Lapsley now has three shutouts in his last three starts dating back to last year and six clean sheets overall for his career
• Lapsley's six saves in the draw with Creighton tied a career high set against San Francisco on Aug. 28, 2017
• Junior sociology major Adam MIckelson's game-winning goal against Omaha gave him 17 points in 23 career matches for the Aggies
• Redshirt freshman neurobiology, physiology, and behavior major Robert Mejia tallied his first career point in his Aggie debut against Omaha, collecting the assist on Mickelson's game-winner
• Eight of UC Davis' 16 newcomers (made up of a program Division I record 11 newcomers and five redshirts from 2017) have already made their official Aggie debuts during opening weekend, including a pair of starts from neurobiology, physiology, and behavior major Emmanuel Doherty
• Aggie field players have blocked a total of 13 shots in their first two games — eight of those coming against Creighton alone
