NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Host CSUN scored twice three minutes apart in midway through the first half to stake the home team to an early lead, and the Matadors added another late in regulation, cruising to a, 3-0, shutout of No. 16 UC Davis in a Big West Conference match on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field.
The defeat was only the second of the season — and the first since Sept. 22 — for the Aggies, who fell to 7-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in league play. UC Davis out-shot CSUN, 13-9, for the match, but put only five of its shots on frame — four of those in the first 45 minutes.
The Matadors improved to 7-4-1 overall with the victory and stayed unbeaten in conference play at 1-0-1.
Christian Wimmer in the 35th minute and Jordan Kinoshi in the 38th minute put CSUN in front for good, each scoring their first of the season for a 2-0 lead at the break. Daniel Trejo, the conference's leading scorer, added his eighth of the year in the 88th minute to cap the scoring.
