DAVIS, Calif. — Freshman midfielder Eline van den Bosch gave the Aggies a 1-0 advantage with her eighth career goal in the 10th minute of play on Friday afternoon, a game that also saw two scoreless overtime periods and a shootout following an equalizer goal by Pacific in the second half. But the Aggies could not hang on, falling 2-1 to America East Conference colleague Pacific.
Freshman forward Siena Dwyer notched her first career assist, while goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow garnered three saves over 90 minutes of action. Of the Aggies 11 total shots, six were on goal. The Aggies also supported a strong offensive showing with an impressive performance on the defensive end, highlighted by the efforts of senior back Kelley Kramer, who time and time again spoiled the Tigers' attack with a steal or shot block.
The Aggies fell to 6-8 on the season with an 0-2 league mark, while the Tigers improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in league play. UC Davis will square off agianst Pacific again on Sunday Oct. 21.
Van den Bosch put UC Davis on the board early during Friday afternoon's America East matchup, finding the back of the cage off the pass from Dwyer with a quick turnaround shot near the top of the circle, a lead that held for the remainder of the first half.
Pacific then answered back in the second half, scoring the equalizer goal after gaining possession of a rebound off the save by Bigelow.
The Aggies would force five total saves by Pacific goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder, including two in the second half.
UC Davis continued to battle in the first overtime period, drawing two penalty corners and forcing two more saves by van Tonder. Following another scoreless 10 minutes of play in the second overtime period the Aggies and the Tigers moved on to a shootout, but it was the Tigers who came out on top logging a 2-1 victory over the Aggies.
UC Davis resumes action on Sunday (Oct. 14) at 1 p.m. hosting America East colleague California at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility.
