DAVIS, Calif. - In addition to representing the university as one of its football student-athletes, Union City native Ryan Bua, who majors in hydrology, has enjoyed taking advantage of the world-renowned academics and resources available to UC Davis students throughout his time on campus.

In this edition of Inside the Huddle, the senior linebacker also shares some advice to help new first-year students enjoy a successful transition to college.

The team has been on the road the last couple weeks, what is it like coming home, and knowing that you will remain in Davis until late October?

We are ready to return to our field, and cannot wait to play for our fans and students, now that everyone is back on campus. We love playing at Aggie Stadium and enjoy this environment.

Knowing that you are home for the next couple weeks, how does that influence the way you prepare for game day?

Whether we are playing a game at home or on the road, the routine and preparation remains the same. The biggest difference is the game day environment.

When we are at home, I have more time to prepare, mentally, on Friday since we are not traveling. I like to watch additional film that day; other than that, the schedule and routine is similar.

What are some memorable moments or highlights that took place throughout your UC Davis career, both on and off the field?

Now that I have been here for a while, I am in awe of the amazing academic opportunities that are available to students. It is awesome to constantly read about new breakthroughs, or cutting-edge research that takes place on campus.

I love everything about UC Davis: the campus, being a student and representing this university. My undergraduate experience has been one big highlight.

What advice would you give UC Davis' class of incoming students to help them successfully transition to life at the No. 6-ranked public school in the nation?

If you are a student-athlete, take advantage of your off days. In order to succeed academically, make the most of your downtime and days off to remain on top of your classwork. For all UC Davis students: Explore all of the resources and opportunities this school provides to help your determine your career of choice, and really push yourself to find something that you enjoy.

You may have entered this school thinking you want to pursue something specific; take some of the fun, interesting, and enjoyable courses UC Davis offers, that you may not have originally pursued, to find out what you like, and perhaps more importantly, do not like.

The team's Big Sky home opener is this Saturday, what on your mind with game day vs. North Dakota (6 p.m. kickoff) rapidly approaching?

We are going to put on a show for you. Prepare to show your Aggie Pride and get loud when you arrive to the stadium this weekend!
