May 8, 2017 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UC Davis senior Paige Lee shot a 5-over-par 77 in the first round of the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, held at the UNM South Championship Course Monday. She ranks fifth among the individual at-large competitors, and tied for 49th on the overall leaderboard.
No. 36 Pepperdine leads the team race with a first-day 1-under 287, three strokes ahead of No. 1 Stanford and eight shots in front of the three-way tie of USC, California and Washington for third. North Carolina State's Laura Kowohl finished the first round atop the individual standings at 3-under 69, while Pepperdine's Tatiana Wijaya and Stanford's Albane Valenzuela wrapped up Monday's round at 70 and 71, respectively. Although hampered by a slow start to the round, Lee rallied to birdies on the 13th and 18th to finish the back nine at 3-over 39, then shot 2-over 38 on the front to finish in the 14-person tie for 49th. The top six teams and top three individuals will advance to the NCAA Finals. The Albuquerque Regional runs through Wednesday, with an 18-hole round on each day.
