DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis is one step closer to reaching its goal of winning three games in as many days to clinch the Big West's automatic bid at this year's NCAA Tournament thanks to its 11-point victory over Cal Poly in Thursday's conference tournament quarterfinal. With a berth in the conference tournament championship game at stake, the Aggies will face Cal State Fullerton in Friday's 9 p.m. semifinal matchup.
Sam Farber and Mark Plansky will call the action courtside at the Honda Center for ESPNU's national broadcast; by signing in with the proper cable/satellite login information, a video stream of this game is also available at WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app.
As was the case with Cal Poly, UC Davis split the season series, with each team collecting a victory on its home court. Friday's rubber game will feature Chima Moneke, the Big West Conference's Newcomer of the Year and Cal State Fullerton's Jackson Rowe, the league's Freshman of the Year. Three All-Big West first team selections will also square off when the Aggies' Brynton Lemar and Moneke compete against the Titan senior guard Tre' Coggins.
With a win, UC Davis will compete in the Big West Tournament's championship game for the first time in the program's history.
The Titans will face an Aggie squad that won four of its last five games, and is coming off as extended a break a Big West Tournament team can enjoy thanks to a unique situation. By competing in the first game of the tournament - Thursday's 12 p.m. quarterfinal - and returning to action in the last semifinal of the night on Friday, no team will enjoy a break between games, at any point of the weekend, compared to UC Davis.
