SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Davis opened its Big West schedule with a 73-47 home victory versus UC Santa Barbara, and will have an opportunity to sweep the season series when it visits the Thunderdome for Saturday's 7 p.m. league matchup.
Edged by Cal Poly on Thursday, the Aggies will also look to earn a split of its current Central California road trip before returning to Davis for two home contests next week.
In its first game of the week, UC Santa Barbara fell 79-53 to Cal State Fullerton, suffering its fifth consecutive loss in the process. Even though the Gauchos have experienced a challenging few weeks, the Thunderdome can still give opponents fits; UCSB earned all of its wins this season on its home court.
Saturday's road game in Santa Barbara will feature three players who lead their respective teams in scoring: The Aggies are led by junior forward Chima Moneke, a double-double machine - he earned his league-high ninth of the season at Cal Poly - and senior guard Brynton Lemar, while the Gauchos are paced by junior guard Gabe Vincent.
Moneke will face UCSB with a team-high 16.0 points per game and a league-high 8.7 rebounds per game; Lemar is averaging 14.1 ppg, the second-highest scoring average on the team, shooting .364 from three and leads the team with 40 three-point field goals.
Vincent leads all Gauchos with his 14.8 ppg and hit 51 of his team's 117 threes this season (44 percent).
