DAVIS, Calif. - By averaging a double-double of 24.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game throughout UC Davis' first week of the season, which included three road contests, senior communication major Chima Moneke earned Big West Player of the Week honors for the second time in his career, in addition to league Player of the Week recognition from College Sports Madness when each organization announced their selections on Monday.
Moneke wasted no time in making an immediate impact for the Aggies by scoring a career-high 28 points in his team's season opener at Northern Colorado.
Two days later at Pacific, he notched the first of consecutive double-doubles when he scored a game-high 26 points, on eight field goals, and by hitting 8 of 10 free throws. Moneke also nailed two shots from three and ended his night with 10 rebounds, another game high.
With the Canberra, Australia native leading the way, UC Davis earned its first road win against the Tigers since the 1939-40 season.
Moneke capped the week by posting a team-high 18 points, game-high 12 boards and career-high four assists at Utah Valley.
UC Davis will return to action Tuesday night when it faces Sacramento State, in this year's Causeway Cup rivalry game at the Golden 1 Center. Tipoff inside the Sacramento Kings' state-of-the-art home is set for 7 p.m.
