Josh Fox turns pro, signs contract with Cheshire Phoenix

Sept. 6, 2016

DAVIS, Calif. - Josh Fox, a two-time all-conference selection and the first Aggie to receive Big West Sixth Man of the Year honors, will compete professionally for the Cheshire Phoenix, as announced by the England-based organization.

"Josh brings great versatility for our lineup where we can use him in numerous positions on both ends of the floor," said Phoenix head coach Colin O'Reilly. "He has a skill set that fits well with the league, and is a player that the fans will take to immediately on and off the court."

Fox, who also competed for the Fijian National Team in last year's Pacific Games while attending UC Davis, averaged a team-high 14.9 points, 6.8 rebounds per game and led all Aggies with his .514 field goal percentage as a senior. When the 2016-17 season ended, Fox held top marks in five different Big West statistical categories.

Fox's .544 career field goal percentage and 703 career points are the second-highest figures recorded by a two-year player in the program's Division I era. In all, eight new D-I top 10 lists now include the Daly City, California, native's name.

After leading City College of San Francisco to a regional championship during his sophomore year, Fox transferred to UC Davis prior to the start of the 2014-15 season. Fox made an immediate impact from the moment he donned an Aggie uniform for the first time, is a key reason why the team collected its first-ever Big West championship and earned its inaugural postseason appearance as a Div. I program that year.

"Not only is Fox productive in terms of points and rebounds," said UC Davis head coach Jim Les, "he is a great leader and sets a tone every day in practice, and on game day. He is a great young man with outstanding character."

The Cheshire Phoenix is one of 12 teams that compete in the British Basketball League, the highest level of professional basketball in the United Kingdom.

Fox will make his preseason debut on September 18 when he and his new teammates face a U.S.-based traveling team in an exhibition game. The Phoenix's first regular season game will take place five days later vs. the Worcester Wolves.

Fox's home debut is slated for September 25 when the Newcastle Eagles visit Cheshire Oaks Arena.
