DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis seniors Tanner Bily and Spencer Henderson each finished with a pair of hits in the final game of their Aggie careers in front of the hometown faithful, while senior right-hander Nat Hamby struck out three over 5.2 innings in his final Dobbins Stadium start, as UC Davis fell to Long Beach State, 11-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies fell to 16-34 overall and 4-17 in Big West Conference play with the loss heading into their final series of the regular season next weekend on the road at Cal Poly. Winners of nine straight, Long Beach State improved to 35-18 overall and 14-7 in league play.
Bily extended his hitting streak to nine straight games with a third-inning single and, later, added a double to left field in the eighth before being lifted for a pinch-runner to a rousing ovation from the home crowd. Henderson also finished 2-for-4, lacing a single back up the middle in the second, and driving home UC Davis' lone run of the game with a double to score Brad Pluschkell in the sixth.
Sophomore Ryan Hooper also finished with a pair of hits for the Aggies as the trio accounted for all but one of the team's hits on the day, the other coming off the bat of Cameron Briggs in the second.
Luke Rasmussen, who finished 2-for-5 with four RBI on the day, got Long Beach on the board with an RBI ground out in the first and the visitors tacked on two more in the third on back-to-back RBI hits by Garrett Hampson and Rasmussen for a 3-0 lead.
Long Beach State then put the game out of reach with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth and five more unearned runs in the sixth, taking advantage of three Aggie errors in that span.
Tanner Brown (7-3) earned the win, allowing an unearned run on five hits over six innings, while Hamby (3-6) suffered the loss for UC Davis, allowing just three earned runs on 12 hits in the defeat.
For Bily, it was his team-high 15th multi-hit game of the season, while Henderson collected his sixth, and Hooper his fourth. Bily's nine-game hitting streak is the longest for the Aggies since he finished with a hit in 11 straight games from April 17-May 6.
Next week's series in San Luis Obispo opens on Thursday (May 26) at 6 p.m., with game two to follow on Friday (May 27), also at 6 p.m. at Baggett Stadium. The series between the Aggies and Mustangs wraps up on Saturday (May 28) at 1 p.m.
