Results and live scoring

LAHAINA, Hawaii - Defending Big West Player of the Year Paige Lee was 1 under on the back nine of The Bay Course at Kapalua Resort on Sunday on her way to par-72, and an early one-shot lead for six-time defending champion UC Davis, which is tied for second after the first round of the Big West Championship.

The Aggies shot 20-over 308 and are tied with UC Riverside and Long Beach State just three shots behind Cal Poly. Host Hawai'i is in fifth at 28 over and is followed by CSUN (+30), Cal State Fullerton (+36) and UC Irvine (+41).

Lee is one of three UC Davis players in the top 10. Senior Betty Chen shot 76 and is tied for ninth while senior Andrea Wong carded a 77 and is tied for 12th. Freshman Daniela Anastasi finished with an 83 and is tied for 29th while Alexandra Zeng posted an 87 and is 39th.

UC Davis is seeded second in the 54-hole tournament behind Long Beach State.

"Kapalua was in great shape today," said head coach Anna Temple. "We know this course so well and that helped us. We struck the ball well today but we need to capitalize on our opportunities and get a few more up and down.

"Paige had a really solid round today and kept up a great attitude throughout the round," she added. "Andrea and Betty put themselves in good position to have a good score and that really helped us. Daniela and Ally learned a great deal about the course today and are in great places mentally to have solid rounds tomorrow."

Lee was 2 over after four holes but then was nearly perfect the rest of the way, picking up a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole and another on the par-5 15th. She had pars on the remaining holes. Lee leads Haley Tygret of Long Beach State by one stroke.

Chen made her turn 4 over but then was even on the back, Wong had three birdies, including two on par-5 holes, and Anastasi had four straight pars on her front nine. Zeng had back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes.

UC Davis will tee off Monday's second round at 11:15 a.m. (Pacific).

The tournament winner earns a berth to the NCAA Regionals.
