March 7, 2016

Results and live scoring

FAIRFAX, Calif.
- Betty Chen faced adverse weather conditions on Monday that forced play to stop three times but the UC Davis senior battled through stormy weather to card a 1-under 71 which put her in a tie for third after the first round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate at Meadow Club.

Inclement weather in the region drenched the course on Sunday night and resulted in the start of the tournament being delayed 45 minutes. It was stopped early in the first round and tournament officials determined that the 13-team field would not be able to complete Monday's scheduled 36 holes of competition. The tournament was adjusted for just 18 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday.

Despite the conditions, Chen fought her way to the top of the leaderboard where she sits in third, just one shot off the lead held by Erin Harper of Indiana and Alexis Keating of Colorado, who each shot 70. Chen had three birdies and just two bogeys on Monday, playing the back nine of the course two shots under par. She got her round to 3 under at one point before giving back two shots near the end.

UC Davis is 23 over par and in 13th but have Coastal Carolina and Colorado State just two shots in front and Pepperdine only four. Oregon State shot 7-over 295 and has a one-shot lead over No. 33 Colorado (+8) and a two-shot advantage over co-host San Jose State (+9).

Alexandra Zeng had two birdies and finished with a 78 and is tied for 39th. She birdied the par-5 13th and the par-4 18th to help her go even on the back nine. Senior Andrea Wong and freshman Sam Hutchison each carded 81s and are tied for 60th. Each player had one birdie in their rounds. Daniela Anastasia was just 3 over on the front nine and finished with an 82 which ties her for 63rd.

UC Davis will tee off the shotgun final round on Tuesday at 8 a.m. Five teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50 are in the tournament field.
