SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sophomore Alexis Brown won the individual uneven bars while senior co-captain Stephanie Stamates held off a group of Hornet gymnasts for the floor exercise title, highlighting UC Davis' second-place finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships at The Nest Saturday night.

Yasmine Yektaparast was announced as the conference's Newcomer of the Year during postmeet ceremonies. Alaska Anchorage's program founder Paul Stoklos earned Coach of the Year honors, Sacramento State assistant and UC Davis alumna Tanya Ho won Assistant Coach of the Year, and Hornet senior Kalliah McCartney took home the top prize as the league's overall Gymnast of the Year.
Host Sacramento State won the team championship with a 196.300 total, its No. 2 score in program history and the highest total in meet history. The Aggies were exactly a full point behind at 195.300, while San Jose State finished third with a 194.375. Seattle Pacific (193.000) nipped Alaska Anchorage (192.850) for fourth with Air Force rounding out the field with a 191.450 total.
Brown scored a 9.825 as the anchor routine on bars, edging a five-way tie for second place that included teammate Dani Judal. Stamates posted a season-high 9.925 on floor exercise, just shy of the Aggie school record of 9.950, to outduel Hornets Kalliah McCartney and Julia Konner, who each posted 9.900 marks in the final rotation. That score also enters her into a seven-way tie for fourth in the Aggie record book. Stamates previous scored a 9.950 on March 13, 2015 to tie the school benchmark.
Brown was the highest overall UC Davis scorer for the championship, tying for third place on vault at 9.825 after opening the meet with a 9.800 on beam. Stamates led the Aggies on beam with a 9.825. Sophomore Miranda Holder also hit 3-for-3 for the meet, scoring 9.700 on vault, 9.750 on bars and 9.750 on floor exercise.
The Aggies kicked off their meet with a 48.550 on balance beam then went 49.125 on floor exercise, marking the team's fourth straight meet above the 49-point threshold. UC Davis then compiled a 48.750 on vault and a 48.875 on bars to close out the meet. The 195.300 total is tied for 10th in school history and tied for fourth among all-time road meets.
Stamates' effort on beam matched San Jose State's Allison Bellingham for fourth in the meet race. Freshman Kara Jones took part in a five-way tie for fifth on floor exercise with her career-high 9.850.
Sacramento State's McCartney won the individual all-around with a 39.450 total, leading four gymnasts at 39 or better: Hornet Lauren Rice (39.325), SPU Falcon Maria Hundley (39.175) and Hornet Julia Konner (39.100). McCartney also captured the vault title with a 9.900, and tied teammate Lauren Rice and SPU sophomore Ariana Harger for the beam championship at 9.850.
UC Davis will await the official announcement of its individual at-large qualifiers to the NCAA Regional, held on April 2.
