Senior co-captain Stephanie Stamates tied career highs on both balance beam and floor exercise, helping UC Davis post a season-high 196.025 in a home triangular meet with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and Causeway Cup rival Sacramento State, and 14th-ranked California.
The Golden Bears won the overall team race at 197.500, the Aggies were second with their third 196-plus score in school history, and the Hornets were third with a 195.425 effort.
Stamates scored 9.875 on balance beam for the third straight meet, and a 9.900 on floor exercise for the second time in 2016, both good for a tie for third place in the individual standings. UC Davis' overall score also ranks fourth in MPSF history while its 49.125 on balance beam ranks tied for fourth in conference annals. The Aggies overcame an early fall to post scores of 9.850, 9.875 and 9.850 down the final stretch, courtesy of sophomore Alexis Brown, Stamates, and senior Katy Nogaki, respectively.
The Aggies also notched a season best and the program's No. 8 all-time score of 49.200 on floor exercise. Senior co-captain Taylor Baron hit a career-high 9.825 to lead off the rotation, while sophomore Amanda Presswood tied her personal record of 9.850 in the No. 4 slot. Freshman Yasmine Yektaparast followed Presswood with a matching score before Stamates anchored the final rotation with her 9.900. That final punch also surged UC Davis past Sacramento State in the team standings, as the Hornets held a 146.975-146.825 lead going into the final event.
Brown enjoyed an outstanding three-event program, adding scores of 9.800 on vault and a team-leading 9.875 on bars, helping the Aggies compile team totals of 48.750 and 48.950 in those events. Senior Dani Judal added a 9.850 on bars in the final home meet of her career, while junior Yonni Michovska followed closely behind at 9.800. Sophomore Jordan Helgesen tied her uneven bars best of 9.725 early in the second rotation to help spur UC Davis.
Two more Aggies made returns from injuries. Freshman Kara Jones hit 9.775 on vault in her first meet back since the February 28 home dual with Alaska Anchorage. Sophomore Rachel Kreager returned to action after a grisly injury on beam at Southern Utah almost a month prior. She only appeared in exhibition, but nailed a would-be career high of 9.850 on beam.
UC Davis have only surpassed 196 on two previous occasions: the 196.425 against Seattle Pacific on February 28, 2014; and last year's school-record 196.900 scored against Washington almost exactly one year ago.
The Aggies break for final examinations then look to defend their MPSF title in the championship meet held at Sacramento State on March 19.
