DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Alexis Brown won the individual uneven bars and balance beam outright while tying for the victory on vault, leading UC Davis to a winning 194.375 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's collegiate gymnastics dual meet at the Pavilion Friday night. Visiting San Jose State scored a 194.225 to finish second.

The Aggies pick up their first overall meet win of the year, improving to 3-7 for the year.

Brown posted a 9.900 on bars to become just the seventh gymnast in UC Davis history to reach that plateau. Only record-holders Ericka Ruelas (2000, three times), Amber Weddell (2004) and Kala DeFrancesco (2015) have scored higher in program annals. Brown added a 9.825 on vault to tie Spartan junior Erica Matos for the win, and 9.825 on beam to best teammate Stephanie Stamates' 9.800.

Stamates captured the floor exercise win at 9.850 while SJSU sophomore Kaitlin Won took down the all-around with a 38.825. Senior Dani Judal was the meet's only other all-arounder, scoring 38.550. She went 9.700 on vault, 9.800 on bars and 9.775 on floor, but suffered a fall on balance beam to miss out on her fifth 39-point performance in her career.

UC Davis opened the meet with a 48.775, getting a 9.800 from junior Katy Nogaki to go with Brown's team-high score. Freshman Kara Jones and sophomore Miranda Holder added 9.725 scores to support the Aggie cause in the opening rotation. The bars squad rebounded from its tough showing in last week's meet with a season-best 48.775. Brown's 9.900 led the way, with Judal close behind with her 9.800. Senior Jamie Yamashita highlighted the rotation with a 9.750, the second-highest score of her career behind only the 9.800 she posted against Seattle Pacific as a sophomore.

Sophomore Rachel Kreager opened the beam rotation with a 9.700 but UC Davis counted two falls on the apparatus to slip to a 47.850. This also allowed SJSU to gain the lead in the team race, 145.775-145.400. Senior Maddie Herr led the Spartans with her 9.800 on floor exercise, helping the team compile a 48.575 in the third.

The Aggies stormed to a 48.975 on floor, tying the previous week's season high. Judal led off the lineup with her 9.775, then freshman Kara Jones followed with a career-best 9.750. Sophomore Miranda Holder missed a career high on floor by mere inches: she scored a 9.800 but took a one-tenth penalty to 9.700 due to her heel straying out of bounds on a landing. Sophomore Amanda Presswood tied her season best of 9.825, good for second in the meet, freshman Yasmine Yektaparast turned in a 9.775, then Stamates nailed her winning 9.850, with only a big step on her first pass preventing her from challenging her own school record.

SJSU finished strong as well, scoring a 48.450 on balance beam. Herr led the Spartans with her 9.775, but overall her team could not hold its lead in the overall scoring.

Friday's score marks the third time UC Davis has exceeded 194 for the year, joining the 194.325 in the January 15 home opener and a 194.750 in its road meet at BYU a week later. The Aggies hit the road for two away meets, starting with a dual at Seattle Pacific on February 12.
