SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Senior right-hander Nat Hamby struck out seven over six-plus innings and two relievers helped combine on the Aggies' second shutout of the weekend, limiting Utah Valley to just six hits en route to a 2-0 UC Davis victory on Saturday at the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Aggies improved to 3-5 overall on the season and 2-1 at the this weekend's tournament, posting their fifth win in six all-time meetings with the Wolverines. The same two teams will meet on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in each team's final game of the tournament.

Utah Valley fell to 3-4 overall on the season with the loss.

Hamby (1-0) limited the Wolverines to just four hits over 6 2/3 innings, posting a season-high in strikeouts en route to his first win of the season. Freshman Robert Garcia and sophomore Blake Peters then came on to surrender just two hits over the final 2 1/3 innings, with Peters picking up his first save of the year.

Jackson Cofer (1-1), the first of three Utah Valley pitchers on the day, took the loss, allowing an unearned run on just three hits over seven innings, striking out seven batters of his own.

UC Davis struck for the only run it would need in the third as Ignacio Diaz led-off with a single and moved all the way to third thanks to an error on Brad Plusckell's sacrifice. Diaz then scored one batter later on a balk call against Cofer for the 1-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until the eighth, when Alex Aguiar led off with a double -- extending his team-best hitting streak to four games -- was sacrificed to third and scored on Tanner Bily's sacrifice fly for some breathing room. Aguiar has reached base safely in all eight games this season.

Hamby, meanwhile, was stellar, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first thanks to a pair of strikeouts, retiring the next seven-in-a-row, and doing his part to strand 12 Wolverine base runners -- four of those in scoring position for the game.
