DAVIS, Calif. -- With nine victories in its first 12 matches -- including three wins over nationally ranked teams -- the UC Davis men's tennis team jumped nine spots to a Division I program-best No. 49 in the nation according to the latest Oracle/ITA Division I rankings released on Tuesday.
Currently enjoying an extended break after a jam-packed schedule to start the spring -- including a run of 11 matches in 18 days -- the Aggies stand at 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the Big West Conference, having faced five schools ranked at the time of the match with wins over No. 33 Pepperdine, No. 72 Pacific, and No. 72 San Francisco, along with battles against then-No. 18 Stanford and No. 8 USC to start the season.
In all, UC Davis has faced four schools currently among the top 75: No. 29 Stanford, No. 13 USC, No. 70 Pacific, No. 66 Abilene Christian, and are among three Big West schools in this week's poll along with No. 27 UC Santa Barbara and No. 62 UC Irvine.
Individually, junior Alec Adamson made a jump of 20 spots to No. 61 in the nation in singles, having won his last five straight contests. Adamson, ranked as high as No. 38 to start the spring, had been ranked No. 81 as of the Feb. 10 polls.
The Aggies, winners of their last six straight duals overall to tie a school Division I record, don't return to the court until March 3, when they head to Southern California to take on Villanova in a dual before participating in the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships in La Jolla, Calif., through March 6.
