NEW ORLEANS, La. - Freshman Daniela Anastasi picked up three birdies, including two in her final four holes, helping her card a 1-over 73 and claim a top-25 position after Sunday's first round of the powerful Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Golf & Country Club.

UC Davis is in 17th place after 18 holes. The Aggies shot an 18-over 306 and are just one shot back of Central Florida (+17), two behind No. 26 Virginia (+16) and Denver, and three back of Mississippi State (+13).

Anastasi's 73 put her in a tie for 23rd place and was the top UC Davis score by four shots. Seniors Andrea Wong and Betty Chen each shot 77 and are tied for 58th, freshman Sam Hutchison finished with a 79 and is tied for 72nd, and redshirt freshman Alexandra Zeng carded an 86 and is in 89th.

Twelfth-ranked Arizona and No. 13 Oklahoma State - just two of a dozen teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50 that are playing in the tournament - are tied for the team lead at 1 under, while No. 11 Florida and host Tulane are tied for third, one shot off the pace.

Anastasi shot her second-lowest score of the season with Sunday's showing. She was 2 over after eight holes but then birdied the par-4, 372-yard 18th hole to make her turn just one shot over par. She then rattled off five straight pars before a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole squared her card. A double-bogey pushed her two shots above before a birdie on the concluding par-4 ninth hole brought her in with a 73.

Wong was 4 over midway through her round but then played her last nine holes just 1 over while Chen had pars on six of her final seven holes to match Wong with a 77. Hutchison turned around a rough front nine by going just 1 over on her back while Zeng had three pars on each side of the course.

Lauren Kim of Stanford leads all players after shooting a 68.

Inclement weather is expected in the New Orleans area on Monday, forcing the tournament to move to shotgun round that will begin at 6 a.m. (Pacific). The Aggies will play with Central Florida and individual players.
