SEATTLE - Junior Katy Nogaki tied for the individual vault title then captured the balance beam outright while the floor squad swept the top four places en route to its first 49-point performance of the year, leading UC Davis to a winning score of 192.550 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation dual at the Royal Brougham Pavilion Friday night. Host Seattle Pacific finished close behind at 192.500.
The Aggies claim their second straight dual win; however, the 192.550 represents the team's lowest score of the year, trailing the 192.700 in the season-opening NorCal Classic.
Nogaki scored 9.800 to tie Falcon senior Maria Hundley for first place on vault, then edged teammate and reigning MPSF Gymnast of the Week Alexis Brown with a 9.875 on beam. Meanwhile Brown and Hundley tied for the win on bars at 9.775. Freshman Yasmine Yektaparast led a first-through-fourth Aggie superfecta on floor at 9.850.
UC Davis opened with a rough rotation on uneven bars, suffering five falls and counting three en route to a 46.750 overall. Brown and sophomore Miranda Holder led the squad with scores of 9.775 and 9.650, respectively. Junior Yonni Michovska chipped in a 9.625, but the Aggies fell behind in the team race by almost a point and a half. Seattle Pacific led off with a solid 48.200 on vault, thanks to Hundley's efforts.
Nogaki led the vault team with her 9.800 with Brown and freshman Kara Jones trailing close behind at 9.750, helping the Aggies rally to a 48.600 in the second rotation. Hundley tied Brown with her 9.775 on bars, but the Falcons saw their team lead diminish to 95.925 to 95.350 at the meet's midway point.
UC Davis pulled ahead after the third rotation, thanks to a season-high 49.050 on floor exercise. Yektaparast led the way with her 9.850 while Holder (9.825), Jones (9.800) and sophomore Amanda Presswood (9.800) also broke the 9.8 plateau. The Aggies had compiled floor scores from 48.925 through 48.975 in the three previous meets but had not eclipsed the 49-point barrier yet in 2016.
Nogaki and Brown highlighted the fourth rotation with their top two performances on beam, but UC Davis counted a fall on the apparatus to close out with a 48.150 total.
The Aggies return to action on February 19 in a triangular meet at Southern Utah with No. 3-ranked Michigan.
