Dec. 26, 2016 DAVIS, Calif. -- A career day in the Bay has garnered Big West Conference Player of the Week honors for UC Davis sophomore Morgan Bertsch, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
In helping the Aggies to their second straight road victory and an 8-3 overall record, Bertsch earned the first conference weekly honor of her career and became the first UC Davis player to be so honored since former teammate Alyson Doherty earned the award on Nov. 30 of last season.
The Santa Rosa, Calif., native poured in a career-high 27 points in UC Davis' only game of the week at San Francisco, hitting on 10-of-15 from the floor and matching a career high with a 7-for-7 performance from the line to help the Aggies roll to a 20-point win over the host Dons.
Bertsch also added six rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocks, in just 24 minutes of play, as her scoring total is tied for seventh on the program's single-game list in the Division I Era. It was the third 20-point game of the season -- and the 13th of her career -- for the biomedical engineering major, whose previous best was 26 points against UC Santa Barbara in last year's conference tournament quarterfinals.
Aside from scoring in double figures in all 11 games this season -- and 19 straight dating back to last year -- her two blocks also gave her 23 for the season, as she has had at least one block in each of the team's games this year and seven games with multiple blocks.
In addition to her Big West award, Bertsch was selected as the Big West's player of the week by the website College Sports Madness for the second time this season, earning her first honor after averaging 16.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg on Dec. 5 following games against San Diego State and No. 11 Stanford.
Bertsch and her Aggie teammates close out the non-conference portion of their schedule this week with a pair of games in Florida. UC Davis takes on UCF on Wednesday (Dec. 28) at 4 p.m. (PT), before taking on Jacksonville on Friday (Dec. 30) at 10 a.m. (PT).
