Lemar named Big West Athlete of the Week

Nov. 28, 2016

DAVIS, Calif. - A week that started with a career-high performance against UC Davis’ Causeway rivals ended with Big West weekly honors for Brynton Lemar when conference officials announced its Player of the Week selection on Monday.

The senior guard opened a four-game, six-day block of games for his team by scoring a career-high 23 points to help UC Davis post an 81-72 victory over Sacramento State in the first-ever college basketball game at the Golden 1 Center.

Against the Hornets, Lemar shot 7 for 13 from the floor, 3 of 5 from three and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. In addition to recording six rebounds five assists and a blocked shot, the San Diego native scored 14 straight points midway through the second half to keep Sacramento State at bay.

During the team’s inaugural appearance at the GCI Great Alaska Shootout, it was Lemar’s 17 points, on 6 of 14 shooting, that lifted UC Davis to a 64-58 win over Drake. As was the case earlier in the week, he nailed three shots from distance and dished out five assists against the Bulldogs.

For the week, Lemar hit 7 of 13 attempts from three (.538), connected on 13 of 15 shots from the stripe (.867), tallied 12 rebounds, 15 assists and three steals.

This is the first time Lemar received Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades.

After a busy week of basketball that featured a historic victory at the Golden 1 Center and three games at the longest-running regular season basketball tournament in the nation, UC Davis will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Idaho. Tipoff from Memorial Gym will take place at 7 p.m.
