DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior Celia Marfone set a season-high with 18 points and classmate Alyson Doherty added a career high-tying 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to offset a 58 percent shooting night from beyond the arc by Long Beach State as the 49ers topped host UC Davis, 75-62, on Thursday night at The Pavilion.

The Aggies fell to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in Big West Conference play, while Long Beach State improved to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Marfone finished 7-of-11 from the field to share game-high honors, setting a career-high in field goals made in the process and falling just one point shy of her career high scoring total set at UC Riverside in 2014. She was one of three starters in double figures as freshman Morgan Bertsch added 14 points on 5-of-8 from the field and six rebounds, while sophomore Pele Gianotti chipped in 10.

Doherty's 12 boards were the most by an Aggie this season, matching her career best set against Utah Valley last season. Her previous season high was 11 set in the season opener against Stanford.

Long Beach State opened the game on an 11-4 run and forced UC Davis into six turnovers in the first five minutes, but the Aggies closed strong, ending the period on a 10-0 run over the final 1:51, and building on that to the tune of a 20-5 burst into the second quarter, going up four at 32-28 on a three by Marfone with 6:08 to play in the half.

UC Davis, however, could not pull away as the 49ers caught fire from long distance. Long Beach State canned four three-pointers in the final five minutes of the half to carry a 40-37 lead into the locker room at the break and, after the Aggies closed to within a point three minutes into the second half, the 49ers scored 11 of the next 13 points to go up 10 and they never looked back.

Seven straight points -- five of those from the line -- by UC Davis made it a three-point contest with 8:56 to play, and the Aggies were within that margin two minutes later, but the Long Beach State defense stiffened, holding the Aggies to without a field goal for more than six minutes before pulling away.

Anna Kim finished with 18 points to lead the 49ers, who also got 16 points apiece from Jewelyn Sawyer and Gigi Hascheff. Long Beach State shot 44 percent overall for the game to the Aggies' 39 percent, and scored 26 points off 21 UC Davis miscues.

UC Davis closes out the weekend with a Saturday matinee against UC Santa Barbara at The Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in a contest that is the first of a doubleheader with the men's team, which hosts Cal Poly.
