DAVIS, Calif. - Agustina Singh recorded a team-high two shots in Friday's non-conference match against Miami (OH) - the second contest in as many days for the Aggies - Jamie Garcia's potential game-tying shot in the second half was redirected at the last possible moment and both teams battled to a 0-0 tie until the Redhawks scored 11 minutes and 53 seconds into the second half, and again with seven minutes remaining in regulation to defeat UC Davis, 2-0.

The Aggies will enter Sunday's contest, the last of a season-long four-match homestand, with a 2-2 overall record. Miami (OH) improves to 3-1 with the result.

"Coming from last year when we played them at their place, this is a tremendous turnaround for us. We are growing as a program and as individuals on the field, I am proud of the caliber of field hockey that we are playing," said UC Davis head coach Tiffany Huisman.

Even though UC Davis was outshot 10-3 in the first half, its defense did a tremendous job preventing Miami from converting on any of its four corners, or finishing what few scoring chances the Redhawks were able to create.

Two of UC Davis goalkeeper Erica Cohen's three saves also took place throughout the opening 35 minutes of play.

In the second half, UC Davis allowed Miami to take only three shots; unfortunately for the Aggies, the Redhawks scored on two of those opportunities. The first goal of the afternoon took place in the 47th minute; with seven minutes remaining in regulation, MU extended its lead by another goal.

Jamie Garcia nearly scored the equalizer for UC Davis midway through the second half when she tried to squeeze a shot between Redhawk goalkeeper Alysa Xavier and the left post. Even though Xavier reacted late to Garcia's attempt, she was still able to swat the ball away from the cage and prevent the Aggies from scoring.

"Defensively we played really well, we just needed to manufacture a couple more opportunities, especially late in the match," said Huisman.

UC Davis will return to action Sunday afternoon against No. 12 Louisville, action at Aggie Field Hockey Facility will start at 12 p.m.
