DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis tested Pacific late in Friday's league opener at Aggie Field Hockey Facility by taking four shots off two penalty corners throughout the final 47 seconds, but was unable to record the game-tying goal and fell to Pacific, 1-0, in the inaugural America East Conference contest for each school.

Last year, both programs competed in the NorPac Field Hockey Conference before switching affiliations in the fall.

UC Davis will enter Saturday's home non-conference matchup, the second in as many days, with a 5-7 overall record. After earning a victory by the slimmest of margins, Pacific will continue its season with a 4-4 overall and 1-0 conference record.

Agustina Singh led all Aggies with three shots and was one of four players to register a shot on goal. Hannah Drawbridge, Kate Young and Briana Sooy, whose last-second attempt was turned away in the final scoring opportunity of the day for the Aggies, comprised the trio players who also tested the Tigers.

Midway through the first half, Drawbridge nearly gave UC Davis a one-goal lead after her shot rolled past a diving Pacific goalkeeper. Unfortunately for Drawbridge, and her team, Katharine Egan backed up her teammate on the play and laid her stick firmly against the turf to deflect the attempt.

Nearly four minutes after the break, it was the Aggies' turn to prevent a surefire goal when Briana Sooy recorded her team-high second defensive save of the season. With her heads-up play, Sooy preserved a scoreless tie and fueled an Aggie counterattack.

Nearly 12 minutes later, no UC Davis player could stop what ended up being the game-winning goal when Kelsey Gulledge deflected Savannah Burns' shot underneath the crossbar. By poking her stick into Burns' shooting lane right in front of the Aggies' cage, she prevented every defender that surrounded her from adjusting themselves accordingly since the tip-in took place within a split second.

Had Gulledge not involved herself on the play, Cohen would have made another easy save and play would have continued.

UC Davis will now look to rebound from Friday's match when the Missouri State Bears visit Aggie Field Hockey Facility on Saturday. This non-conference matchup will start at 2 p.m.
