Box Score

EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the second consecutive match, UC Davis turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1, come-from-behind victory at Michigan State after Jamie Garcia tied the score in the 40th minute, and Kat Jackson scored her first goal as an Aggie 15 minutes later, on her first collegiate shot, to help her team record its first win against a Power Five opponent since the program was resurrected in 2009.

Now that its season-long two-week road trip concluded in the best possible way, UC Davis will return home with a 5-6 record and remain in Davis throughout the next two weeks. Michigan State, a team ranked No. 19 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Preseason Poll, is now 3-5.

As was the case when the Aggies faced Central Michigan last Friday, Michigan State scored the first goal of the day, and took a 1-0 lead when Megan Fenton scored in the 22nd minute.

Even though the Spartans outshot the Aggies, 9-5, that was the only goal that UC Davis surrendered all afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Jamie Garcia scored her team-high sixth goal of the season, and second in as many matches, to pull the Aggies even with the Spartans at 1-1 after blasting a shot past MSU goalkeeper Sierra Patton and her line of defenders.

Fifteen minutes later, Jackson pushed the Aggies ahead after she beat a slew of Michigan State players to a loose ball in front of the Spartans' cage.

Courtney Hessler's initial shot on the play was turned back by Patton; after racing to the ball off her teammate's rebound, Jackson recorded her only shot of the match -- one that came to a rest inside the Spartan's cage and ultimately became the game-winning goal.

In addition to recording her first goal, and points as an Aggie, Jackson also recorded her first collegiate shot on that play.

Now armed with a one-goal advantage, UC Davis successfully defended three Michigan State shots and two penalty corners to upset the Spartans on their own turf.

After bouncing from school to school throughout the last two weeks, field hockey will return home to face the Pacific Tigers, this Friday at 2 p.m., in the inaugural America East Conference contest for each school.

This is first of five consecutive matches that will take place at Aggie Field Hockey Facility throughout the next three weeks.
