ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sparked by the rarely achieved albatross, senior Andrea Wong shot a team-best 4-under 69 while freshman Daniela Anastasi backed that up with a 1-under 72 on Tuesday as the UC Davis women's golf team posted its best score of the tournament while finishing tied for 11th at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at UNM Championship Course.

The Aggies shot a 6-over 298 team score - bettering their opening-round score by a shot and their second-round by three - to complete the 54-hole event at 22 over. That tied them with Gonzaga in the final standings, just two shots behind 10th place Ohio State. First-day leader Stanford (-20) won the 18-team event by 10 shots over Northwestern while UNLV (-6) took third.

Wong's 69, her second round this week at par or better, helped her finish in a tie for 18th at 1 under while Anastasi capped her Aggie debut by tying for 54th at 10 over. Junior Paige Lee shot 77 and tied for 40th at 6 over, freshman Sam Hutchison had an 80 and tied for 64th at 13 over, and senior Betty Chen shot 82 and tied for 78th at 17 over.

Wong's amazing 2 on the par-5 10th hole capped a spectacular finish which saw her move from 1 over with three holes to play to 4 under at the round's conclusion. She birdied the par-3 8th hole, added another on the par-5 9th and then got the ball in the hole on her second shot on the 480-yard 10th hole. That hole ranked as the fifth-toughest in the tournament.

Anastasi's 72, which was her best round by five shots, had an eagle on the par-5 1st hole to help highlight her day in which she played the course's four par-5 holes four shots under par. She was 2 under on the front nine. Lee was 2 over on each side of the course while playing the third through 10th holes at 1 under. Hutchison had seven consecutive pars during her round while Chen had two birdies on the back nine.

Northwestern's Sarah Cho shot a final-round 69 and won by a stroke at 8 under over Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse.

The Aggies will return to action on Sunday when they play in the second annual East/West Match Play event at Wisconsin. Teams will open with stroke competition before being seeded for match play. The format is designed to replicate the general format of the NCAA Finals.
