DAVIS, Calif. - Seven games against teams that advanced to the postseason last year, another two versus its cross-Causeway rivals and 15 home events highlight UC Davis men's basketball's 2015-16 season as announced by head coach Jim Les on Thursday.
The Aggies will remain local for their first four games of the season; after hosting Summit League champion and NCAA Tournament participant North Dakota State in their season opener on Nov. 13, men's basketball will end its first homestand with games against Portland (Nov. 15) and Fresno Pacific (Nov. 18).
UC Davis will visit Sacramento State (Nov. 24) for its inaugural road game of the year in the first of two Causeway Cup meetings. After the Aggies visit Utah Valley (Nov. 28), this year's rivalry series will conclude when the Hornets visit the Pavilion following week (Dec. 2).
For the first time in 25 years, men's basketball will face West Coast Conference powerhouse, and National Invitation Tournament selection, Saint Mary's (Dec. 4) in the first of back-to-back games against teams from that league. Once finals conclude, UC Davis will then head to San Diego (Dec. 15) -- a team the Aggies have not faced since the 1978-79 season.
Two home games against Air Force (Dec. 19) and Idaho (Dec. 22) will take place before the holiday break. Once action resumes, UC Davis will visit Seattle (Dec. 28) before facing defending Mountain West Conference champion Boise State (Dec. 30) -- another team that competed in last year's NCAA Tournament.
In its final non-conference game, UC Davis will host Holy Names (Jan. 2) before opening Big West play at UC Irvine (Jan. 7), a team that represented the Big West Conference at last year's Tournament, and Long Beach State (Jan. 9).
Starting with its Big West home opener against CSUN (Jan. 14), four of the Aggies' next five games will take place at home. UC Riverside (Jan. 21), Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 27) and Cal Poly (Jan. 30) will also visit the Pavilion that month; a game at Hawai'i (Jan. 23) is the only road contest that will take place throughout that (near) three-week timespan.
Road games at Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 4) and UC Riverside (Feb. 6) will precede the Aggies' next homestand -- one that includes matchups against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 11), a team that competed in last year's College Basketball Invitational, and Long Beach State (Feb. 13).
UC Davis will then face Cal Poly (Feb. 18) on its own court before squaring off against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 20) for the second time in nine days.
The Aggies will host UC Irvine (Feb. 27) and Hawai'i (March 3) in their final home games of the year before ending the regular season at CSUN (March 5).
For the sixth consecutive season, the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, will host the Big West Men's Basketball Tournament. Teams that advance past the quarterfinal round will compete in one of two semifinal matchups slated to take place the following day. Winners of those games will compete for the conference's tournament championship and a berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
Season ticket sales and renewals for the 2015-16 campaign will start on Sept. 1 through the UC Davis ticket office, located at Aggie Stadium, online at UCDavisAggies.com, or by phone at (530) 752-AGS1.
By purchasing season tickets, basketball fans will secure the best prices available for seats in prime locations throughout the entire season. Season ticket holders will also receive additional benefits throughout the season, including the ability to transfer tickets to friends, family and other Aggie men's basketball fans.
