NOTRE DAME, Ind.
- Senior Blair Lewis finished in fifth place, third-place UC Davis tied its best-ever regional showing, and the No. 20 Aggie women's golf team advanced to the national finals for the fourth time with an impressive performance at the NCAA South Bend Regional at Warren Golf Course.

UC Davis, which was seeded fifth, posted a 7-over 295 total on the final day for a 20-over 884 overall score for the weekend. The Aggies tied for the third-best final-round score. That gave them a coveted top-six finish and qualified them for the NCAA Championships May 22-27 in Bradenton, Florida.

Fifth-ranked Duke took the regional title at 9-over while No. 13 Wake Forest was second at 12 over. Fourth-ranked Arizona (+22), No. 26 Tulane (+24) and No. 33 Purdue (+24) also earned berths to the NCAA Finals. Besides Arizona, UC Davis also finished in front of No. 12 Oklahoma State, which finished 11th.

Lewis, who was coming off a fifth-place performance at the Big West Championship last month at El Macero Country Club, finished 1 over after shooting par-72 on Saturday. That tied her for fifth place and gave her the fourth top-10 finish of her season.

Sophomore Paige Lee tied for 14th at 4 over after shooting 76, junior Andrea Wong fired 74 and tied for 21st at 6 over, Beverly Vatananugulkit carded a 73 and tied for 41st at 11 over, and junior Betty Chen finished with a 77 and tied for 76th place at 18 over.

UC Davis' third-place finish tied the 2011 Aggie team that was third at Washington for the best regional performance in program history. Lewis tied Demi Runas, who was fifth at that tournament, for the best individual performance at a regional.

"Today is an exciting day for our program," said Aggie coach Anna Temple. "To advance to the NCAA Finals four times in our eight-year Div. I history is a great accomplishment. To be able to compete for a national championship is an honor and our hard work over the course of the season has prepared us well for days like today. It rained heavily last night so the course played a little bit longer but our players adjusted really well to the changes in condition."

Lewis was solid once again for the Aggies, posting three birdies, including one on the par-4 first hole and then another on the par-3 14th. She had just three bogeys and added 12 pars. Vatananugulkit, also a senior, was 3 over after 16 holes but then charged home with birdies on the par-5 17th and par-4 18th to post 73.

Wong made her turn two shots over par but had birdies on two of her next four holes to help her cover the final nine holes even and shoot 74 for the day. Lee was just 1 over on her back nine while Chen was just 2 over as UC Davis had another consistent day throughout its lineup.

Duke's Leona Maguire finished 4 under to take medalist honors by a stroke over teammate Celine Boutier who held the lead through 36 holes. Isabelle Johannsson of Idaho, Michaela Fischer of Memphis and Leilanie Kim of Idaho each qualified for the NCAA Finals as individuals.

UC Davis also qualified for the NCAA Finals in 2008, 2011 and 2013. The Aggies were a program-best 16th in 2013 at the University of Georgia.

The NCAA Championships will be held at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton and televised by The Golf Channel.
