HONOLULU -- Host Hawai'i used a four-run second inning to break a 1-1 tie and the Rainbow Warriors stranded 12 UC Davis base runners on the night, snapping the Aggies' seven-game winning streak with an 8-3 Big West Conference win at Les Murakami Stadium on Thursday night in Honolulu.

The loss dropped UC Davis to 18-8-1 overall and 3-1 in league play, as seven of the 12 left on base were stranded in scoring position. Hawai'i, which was swept in its conference-opening series with UC Irvine last week, improved to 10-19 overall and 1-3 in the Big West, snapping a four-game losing streak with the victory.

Senior Tino Lipson finished 2-for-4, reached base three times, and stole a pair of bases, extending his team-best hitting streak to 12 consecutive games in the process, while Nick Lynch, who collected his nation-leading 18th double on the year to get the Aggies on the board in the first inning, John Williams, and Guillermo Salazar, each drove in runs on the night.

Right-hander Spencer Koopmans (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and walking a pair over six innings. Junior Nat Hamby pitched the final two innings, but could not emerge unscathed, allowing two earned on two hits, while walking four.

L.J. Brewster (4-3) earned the win, working around six walks while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five over 5 2/3 innings. The bullpen then took over, as three Hawai'i pitchers combined on 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief, allowing just two hits and four base runners overall.

Lipson singled with one out in the first and stole second for Lynch, who sent the second pitch he saw from Brewster down the right field line, scoring his classmate for the 1-0 lead. Lynch then advanced to third on a wild pitch and Austin March walked to put runners at the corners, but Brewster wriggled off the hook, getting a strikeout and catching Lynch in a rundown between third and home to end the inning.

An RBI single by Alex Sawelson tied the game in the home half of the first, but it was the second inning that saw the Rainbow Warriors do most of their damage, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring four times. A wild pitch with one out and the bases loaded broke the tie and Stephen Ventimilia had the big hit -- a two-run single through the right side -- to make it 4-1. Kaeo Aliviado added an RBI single two batters later for a 5-1 advantage.

The Aggies had runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings, but could not bring them home, before rallying for a pair in the sixth to close to within two. Spencer Henderson singled and Alex Aguiar drew a walk with one out, both advancing 90 feet on a passed ball. A ground ball to the right side scored a run and Salazar came on to pinch hit, delivering a single through the left side to drive home another to make it 5-3.

That would be as close as UC Davis would get as Hawai'i added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to pull away late.

The two teams return to the diamond on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. HT/9:35 p.m. PT in game two of the series with sophomore left-hander Orlando Razo (4-1, 2.50 ERA) schedule to take the mound for the Aggies against the Rainbow Warriors' right-hander Tyler Brashears (3-3, 2.74 ERA).
