BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Tino Lipson finished with a career-high tying four hits and drove in three, while classmate Kevin Barker added three hits and scored three runs, helping UC Davis win its third road series of the season thanks to a 10-2 victory over host Seattle on Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.
Senior right-hander Raul Jacobson (2-0) allowed just one earned on six hits while striking out six to help the Aggies improve to 10-6-1 overall on the year, taking two-of-three from the Redhawks over the weekend. Seattle, which got two hits from three different batters on the day, fell to 5-11 overall.
UC Davis scored in four of the first five innings to back Jacobson, getting RBI hits from Nick Lynch and Izaak Silva in the first and adding another on a Lipson single in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Redhawks got two of the runs back in the second on three hits and an error to make it a one-run game, but that was as close as they would get.
An RBI groundout by Evan Heptig and a double to left by Lipson made it 5-2, and the Aggies broke open the game in the fifth, scoring five times on five hits. A sac fly by Alex Aguiar, a two-run double by Heptig, a single to right by Barker, and a Lipson single put the game away.
Jacobson, Blake Peters, and Zach Stone, then shut the door, combining to allow just one hit and strand a batter over the final five innings.
Ted Hammond (1-3) suffered the loss for Seattle, charged with three earned on five hits in just two innings. He was the first of seven Redhawk pitchers on the day, none of whom lasted longer than two innings.
Seven of the nine Aggie starters finished with hits, including Heptig, who also drove in three while going 2-for-4 at the plate. UC Davis finished with double-digit hits for the eighth time this season and double-digit runs for the fourth time, posting back-to-back games with 10-or-more runs for the first time since Feb. 22-23 of last season against Kansas State and Portland.
For Barker, it was his third three-hit game of the season and stands tied with Lynch and Austin March for the most multi-hit games this season with seven. He also finished with two stolen bases to add to his team-best total (16), while swiping a base for the fifth consecutive game. Lipson had his best day at the plate since finishing 4-for-5 at Saint Mary's on May 14, 2013, logging his fourth career four-hit game.
In other "streak" news, Barker extended his hitting streak to a team-best eight games, batting .371 (13-for-35) during that span, scoring six runs and stealing nine bases. With his double in the fifth, March has now reached base safely in all 17 games this season, while Lynch (15 games) and Barker (10 games) extended lengthy streaks of their own.
Following seven straight games on the road, the Aggies return home to Dobbins Stadium on Tuesday (March 10), welcoming Nevada for a midweek contest. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
