Box Score

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Senior Austin March finished 4-for-5 to help power an 18-hit UC Davis attack, backing a gem from sophomore left-hander Orlando Razo, and helping lift the Aggies to a 13-1 rout of host Seattle in game two of their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.

The win pushed UC Davis to 9-6-1 overall on the season, evening its series with the Redhawks at one game apiece. Seattle, 8-3 winners in the opener on Friday, fell to 5-10 overall with the loss, managing just four hits off a pair of Aggie pitchers.

Razo (3-1) was brilliant over seven innings of work, allowing just one run and striking out six, before giving way to sophomore right-hander Justin Mullins, who walked only one in a pair of hitless, scoreless innings to close things out.

Redhawk starter Skyler Genger (1-3) was stuck with the loss, tagged for four earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out five over 6 1/3 innings of work.

Five different Aggie hitters finished with multiple hits on the day as UC Davis set season highs in runs and hits, led by March's four-hit day, adding a pair of runs scored, a walk, and an RBI, reaching base safely in all 16 games this season. Senior Tino Lipson, who gave the Aggies an early 1-0 lead with his first career home run with one out in the first, added three hits and two RBI, while teammates Kevin Barker, Nick Lynch, and Alex Aguiar, contributed two hits apiece.

The Redhawks drew even in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brock Carpenter, but that would be it for the Seattle offense, which was held without a hit until a single by Colin Peterson, who accounted for two of Seattle's four hits, in the seventh. Meanwhile, the Aggies' offense rolled, scoring twice on an RBI single by Aguiar, who was thrown out trying to steal second, but hung on long enough for Izaak Silva to score from third for a 3-1 lead after two.

Both pitchers matched zeroes until UC Davis dealt the big blow in the seventh, sending 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight times to put the game out of reach. Lipson, March, Spencer Henderson, Aguiar, and Brad Pluschkell, all had RBI hits in the inning, while Silva walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run, and John Williams had an RBI ground out to cap the scoring in the inning.

Not done yet, Mason Novak added a pinch-hit, two-run single to right center, bringing home March and Lynch, for the final advantage.

Ten different Aggies collected hits on the day as UC Davis posted its highest hit total since exploding for 21 hits in a 12-3 win over Hawai'i on May 18, 2014, and the most runs since a 16-12 win over Saint Mary's on May 14, 2013.

The rubber game of the three-game series begins on Sunday at Noon, with senior right-hander Raul Jacobson slated to take the mound for the Aggies against Ted Hammond for the Redhawks.
