March 23, 2015

Live Scoring

LAHAINA, Hawaii.
- Paige Lee's impressive round of 4-under 68 gave her a three-shot lead atop the player leaderboard, UC Davis teammate Andrea Wong is among those tied for second, and the No. 32 Aggie women's golf team is just two shots off the pace after the first round of the Anuenue Spring Break Golf Classic at The Bay Course on Maui.

Senior Beverly Vatananugulkit shot 75 and is tied for 16th, junior Betty Chen had a 76 and is tied for 27 and senior Blair Lewis carded a 79 and is tied for 53. UC Davis was just 2 over on the day and is tied with No. 39 Louisville behind first-day leader Texas, ranked 50th, which shot par.

The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Hawai'i, features seven of its 15 teams ranked among Golfstat's top 50 and all of them are among the top seven places after the first round.

Lee entered the event as the Aggies' leading scorer and her opening 18 holes will help her 73.1 scoring average. She collected 13 pars and five birdies, including back-to-back ones on the par-5 16th and par-4 16th holes. Lee covered the back nine of the 6,022-yard course four shots under par. She had two more birdies on the front and just one bogey to help her take the early lead.

Lee is looking for her second win of the spring after finish first at Stanford's Peg Barnard Invitational in February.

Wong's strong day gave UC Davis two players at the top of the standings. She had three birdies, all of them on coming between the 15th and 17th holes. She mixed in 10 consecutive pars on her way to a 71. Wong is tied with Bertine Strauss and Natalie Karcher of Texas, Louise Oxner of Louisville, and Han Wu of Gonzaga.

Vatananugulkit highlighted her day with a 2-under 33 on the back nine, including birdies on the 15th and 17th holes. Chen was just 1 over on the course's front side and had birdies on two par-5 holes on Monday. Lewis had four straight pars on the back and was just 3 over on that side.

UC Davis led the field in par-3 scoring (3.12) and was tied for second on par-5 holes (4.84). The Aggies are tied with Louisville for most pars (61) as well.

The teams will play another shotgun round on Tuesday beginning at 10:45 a.m. (PDT). The Aggies will be paired with Texas, Louisville and Gonzaga.
