USBWA bestows All-District honors to Hawkins

March 16, 2015

DAVIS, Calif. - The U.S. Basketball Writers Association selected Corey Hawkins to this year's All-District Team. Hawkins is one of 11 players from District IX, which comprises the top players from California, Oregon, Washington, Hawai'i, Arizona and Alaska.

The USBWA's award is the latest received by the No. 1 three-point shooter in the country and Big West Conference Player of the Year.

In addition to becoming the first player in program history to receive the league's most prestigious individual award, Hawkins received all-conference honors for the third straight season when he was named to the First Team.

By leading all league players with his 20.6 points per game average, the senior guard also captured his second scoring title in the last three seasons.

"One of the big reasons why we have been able to enjoy a successful year is because of Corey. He has a great work ethic and set the tone for us starting with last summer's workouts," said head coach Jim Les. "He worked hard not only to make himself a better player, but to challenge everyone else on this team.

"We love to see him recognized not only for his talent and abilities, but for his leadership skills and work ethic."

Recognized by ESPN earlier this season as one of the top 25 players in the country, Hawkins enters Tuesday's National Invitation Tournament game ranked No. 2 all-time in the 104-year history of the program with 1,660 points scored.

In all, Hawkins enters UC Davis' first-ever Division I postseason game with top rankings in six NCAA and nine Big West individual statistical categories.

This spring, the senior guard will graduate with a degree in American Studies.

UC Davis will face the Stanford Cardinal as part of the 2015 National Invitation Tournament's opening round. ESPN2 will broadcast Tuesday's game from Maples Pavilion, across the country, starting at 8 p.m.
