DAVIS, Calif. - By closing out the regular season with two victories - including a Big West title-clinching win, and another that secured a perfect home record - UC Davis climbed one spot to No. 9 in CollegeInsider's Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
As has been the case since Jan. 12, UC Davis is the only Big West team listed in the top 25.
The Aggies will enter this week's Big West Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will face CSUN (No. 8) in Thursday's quarterfinal. Tipoff for that matchup will take place at noon.
Fans who are unable to attend that game in person at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., can watch a nationally televised broadcast live on FOX College Sports, a video stream online at FOXSportsGo.com, listen on KSAC (105.5 FM), access an internet audio broadcast and/or live stats at ucdavisaggies.com, or receive in-game Twitter updates @UCDavisInGame.
With its thrilling, come-from-behind victory last Thursday, UC Davis clinched its inaugural Big West title and top seed at the Big West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. Two days later, the Aggies sent their four seniors out in style by sweeping then-second place UC Irvine, and posting the team's first undefeated home record as a Division I program.
When the final buzzer sounded inside the Pavilion, and the regular season officially ended, UC Davis became the first school in the 46-year history of the Big West to finish last one season and win the outright championship the next. Senior guard Corey Hawkins, the nation's No. 1 three-point shooter with his .497 percentage, collected his second league scoring title in the last three seasons.
On March 9, the Big West released its all-conference selections and specialty award winners - a list that was dominated by UC Davis. Hawkins, senior guard/forward Josh Ritchart and junior forward Josh Fox received First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention honors respectively, three of a league-high six awards collected by the Aggies. Hawkins was named Big West Player of the Year, Fox was selected Sixth Man of the Year and Jim Les was earned Coach of the Year accolades.
Now in its 16th year, the Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic.
