Ritchart receives Big West Player of the Week award

Feb. 9, 2015

IRVINE, Calif. - Stellar back-to-back performances at UC Irvine and CSUN helped Josh Ritchart earn Big West Player of the Week accolades.

Monday's announcement marked the third time in his career that weekly league honors were bestowed to Ritchart, and the first time since joining the Big West Conference that two Aggies were named Player of the Week in the same season.

Including the league's selection of Corey Hawkins, the last two weekly awards have been collected by Aggies. As was the case with Hawkins, College Sports Madness also named Ritchart its Big West Player of the Week.

Ritchart averaged 21.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, shot 70.8 percent overall and 60 percent from three to help UC Davis, who began the week tied for first place with two other teams, remain atop the Big West standings by itself when the team ended its Southern California road trip.

Last Thursday at UC Irvine, the senior guard/forward led all players with 22 points on a season-high 10 of 11 shooting from the field. Ritchart knocked down 2 of 3 shots from three; that lone miss prevented him from recording his second perfect shooting line for the season. Two days later at CSUN, he led all players once again with 21 points and canned a three with 1:43 remaining to push the Aggies' lead to nine and seal the victory.

Ritchart has scored 20 or more points in the Aggies' last three contests, posted six 20-plus-point games this season and bumped his career total to 13 after facing the Anteaters and Matadors.

UC Davis, a team that has won nine of its last 10 games, will bring a four-game win streak to the Pavilion when Cal State Fullerton visits on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
