SANTA ANA, Calif. - Two birdies and seven pars propelled Betty Chen to a 2-under on the Santa Ana Country Club back nine on Tuesday, sparking her even-par 72 for the No. 34 UC Davis women's golf team during the final round of the UC Irvine Invitational.

UC Davis carded a 12-over 300 team score in the third round, finishing 25 over and in seventh place at the 13-team tournament. Chen's 72 led the Aggies on the final day and helped her tie for 40th. Andrea Wong shot 72 and tied for 27th at 6 over, Paige Lee had a 75 and tied for 21st at 4 over, Beverly Vatananugulkit shot 79 and tied for 33rd at 8 over, and Blair Lewis finished with an 83, tying for 61st at 19 over.

The highly competitive tournament featured 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50. UC Davis finished in front of three teams ranked higher than it, including No. 5 Stanford which was 11th, No. 20 Pepperdine (9th) and No. 24 San Diego State (24th).

Fourth-ranked Washington captured an 11-shot win over No. 2 USC, carding a three-round total of 10-under 854. Texas A&M, ranked 15th, was 6 over and finished third while No. 19 UNLV - which had a tournament-best 12-under 276 on Tuesday - was fourth at 7 over.

Marijosse Navarro of Texas A&M tied USC's Gabriella Then for medalist honors at 5 under but won a playoff on the fifth hole to secure a sponsor's exemption to the LPGA's Kia Classic next month. Kia was the presenting sponsoring of the UC Irvine Invitational.

Starting on the 10th hole, Chen opened her round with two pars before picking up consecutive birdies on the par-12th and 13th holes. She rattled off five straight pars to play the back nine of the 5,903-yard course two shots below par. She remained even before finishing with a birdie and three bogeys to card a 72.

Wong scrambled to par on the back nine, collecting four birdies, three pars, a bogey and a triple-bogey. She played the front nine just 2 over on her way to a 74. Lee had 15 pars during her round of 75, Vatananugulkit birdied the par-4 fourth hole and Lewis had nine pars.

UC Davis will return to competition on Mar. 9-10 when it travels to the Bay Area Intercollegiate, hosted by USF and San Jose State.
