Monson, Lemar and Schneider lead Ags at USD

Box Score SAN DIEGO - UC Davis ended an 11-day hiatus by visiting San Diego for the first time since 1978 and trailed by five with 2:30 left in Tuesday's non-conference contest at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Even though Lawrence White recorded two of his season-high four steals in the waning moments, the Toreros were able to hang on, hit their free throws when fouled to stop the clock to down the Aggies by a 61-55 score.

Starting with Saturday's 2 p.m. matchup against Air Force, UC Davis will play its next two games on Hamilton Court, and enter the weekend with a 4-4 record.

The final home game of 2015 will take place three days later vs. Idaho.

San Diego will continue its season with a 4-6 mark.

Led by Neal Monson, who finished with a team-high 15 points - two shy of his career high - three Aggies finished in double figures. San Diego native Brynton Lemar connected on 5 of 10 shots, and sank two at the stripe to finish with 12 points. Siler Schneider recorded two of his four field goals from three and chipped in 10.

With numerous friends and family members in attendance, Lemar grabbed six rebounds in addition to scoring 10 or more points for the fifth consecutive game.

Marcus Harris led all Toreros with 16 points and was one of four players who scored double digits. Responsible for nine of his team's 11 blocked shots, Jito Kok, San Diego's all-time leader in this statistical category, set a new single-game mark.

UC Davis led by one at halftime, but USD started the second half by scoring eight straight points. As the half progressed, that lead extended to double digits before the Aggies were able to whittle it down to a two-possession margin in the final minutes.

With Fox and Berry carrying four fouls for all but a few minutes of the second half - 30 of the game's collective 48 fouls were called throughout the first 20 minutes of action - the Aggies' offense ran through Monson.

After he scored six straight for the Aggies, Schneider canned a jumper from 16 feet and Berry hit his only three of the night to pull UC Davis within five.

A three from Harris turned UC Davis' two-possession deficit into an eight-point cushion for San Diego - one that was trimmed to the game's final margin after Lawrence White and Lemar scored their team's final points at the free throw line.

"I'm disappointed with the way we played tonight," said UC Davis head coach Jim Les. "We needed to play with more energy … now it's time to get back to work (for Saturday's game)."
