Men's basketball holds two top-five national rankings

Jan. 20, 2015

DAVIS, Calif. - As indicated by their shooting percentages, this year's UC Davis men's basketball team has done a phenomenal job creating open looks and quality scoring opportunities all season long. When the Aggies travel to Hawai'i this Thursday for its next Big West game, the Rainbow Warriors will face a UC Davis squad that leads the nation with its .441 three-point percentage and ranked No. 5 among all 345 Division I programs with a .501 field goal percentage.

This is the third consecutive week that the Aggies lead the nation in three-point shooting and the seventh straight week the team has held the top mark in the Big West.

When UC Davis faced CSUN in its inaugural Big West game on Jan. 10, the Aggies were ranked No. 10 in the nation in field goal percentage. When men's basketball traveled to Southern California for its first league road trip last Wednesday, the team had already climbed one spot in the national rankings. Four days and two victories later, UC Davis jumped to its current No. 5 position before conducting its first practice of the week.

If victorious against the Rainbow Warriors, the Aggies will set two new records for the most overall and road wins as a Division I team. With 14 and six respectively, this year's roster and head coach Jim Les' 2012-13 team currently share these two all-time Division I marks.

Thursday's Big West game at Hawai'i will tip at 9 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. HT.
