BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Layla Sanders battled her way to the semifinal round of her singles flight in the Cal Fall Invitational before falling Sunday afternoon in straight sets.

Taking place at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, California, Sanders dropped her match 6-1, 6-4, to Kareena Mangi from Saint Mary's.

In last year's event, Sanders dropped her main draw match and the subsequent consolation contest. This season, the flight's No. 5 seed captured straight-set victories against Toby Miclat (BYU), Emma Critser (Saint Mary's) and No. 4 seed Sheila Smiley (Nevada) to earn a spot in the Invitational's final day of activity.

UC Davis' next tournament will take place at Stanford, California, site of this year's ITA Northwest Regional Championships. This five-day tournament will commence on Oct. 10.
