BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Layla Sanders, the tournament's No. 5 seed in the Gold Singles flight and Samantha Martino won all singles matches played at the Cal Fall Invitational's first day of action on Friday.

Sanders defeated BYU's Toby Miclat in straight sets to advance to Saturday's Round of 16 where she will meet Saint Mary's Emma Critser.

In the White Singles flight, Martino won both matches played against Nevada's Elissa Pavalea and Regina Suarez. After sweeping Pavalea, 7-5, 6-1, the sophomore advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals with a three-set triumph against Pacific's Suarez, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

After defeating Gergana Boncheva in the Round of 32 by winning the final two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, Boncheva took the first frame by a 6-4 margin, Tiffany Pham dropped her Gold Singles matchup against San Francisco's Marina Nikolic. Against the flight's No. 1 seed, Pham extended Nikolic to a decisive third set after winning the second; all three sets were won by respective 6-3 scores. 

Sophomore Kamila Kecki also split her singles matches; following a straight-set victory against Santa Clara's Elaine Chisoni, she fell in three sets to San Francisco' Millie Hadzi-Tanovic in three sets. 

Falling in her Round of 32 matchup in three sets against Sacramento State's Ana Loaiza, newcomer Jessie Lee rebounded in her consolation matchup against Fresno State's Tanya Murtaugh. Lee defeated her opponent in straight sets by matching 6-3 scores to collect her first victory as an Aggie.
