ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Severe weather suspended play during the second round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico on Monday but not before the UC Davis women's golf team climbed into sole possession of third place.
UC Davis was tied for third with Oklahoma State at the end of the first round after both teams shot par-292 team scores. The Aggies, however, stayed at par until the play was stopped because of rain and hail while Oklahoma State fell back into sixth. The teams will finish the second round on Tuesday beginning at 6:45 a.m. (PDT) before playing the final round.
Northwestern is currently 5 under and owns a three-shot lead over UNLV and is five in front of the Aggies. Cal is a distant fourth at 11 over in the 16-team tournament.
Wong was 1 over early in her second round but has put together four birdies and nine pars since then to move to 3 under for her round. She'll pick up her round on the fourth hole. Lewis has three birdies in her second round after capitalizing on three birdies over a four-hole span in her first round en route to a 72.
Lee shot 1-under 72 in the opening round before going 4 over in her second round after just five holes. She stormed the back nine of the UNM Championship Course, however, with three birdies to get back to within 1 over with three holes remaining.
Chen had a steady round to open her play, collecting two birdies and 15 pars while shooting a 72. She's 2 over in the second round. Vatananugulkit carded a 77 in the first round and is 4 over in the second, helped by three birdies.
Suc Tangkamolprasert of Northwestern and Dana Finkelstein of UNLV are tied for first at 6 under. They share a four-shot lead.
