April 5, 2014

Live Scoring and Results

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Beverly Vatananugulkit posted an even round of par-72 on Saturday at the PING/ASU Invitational at Karsten Golf Course, helping the No. 39 UC Davis women's golf team climb a spot to 11th in the standings after 36 holes.

The Aggies fired a 10-over 298 team score - two shots better than their opening round on Friday - and are 22 over heading into Sunday morning's final round.

Vatananugulkit's solid round jumped her into a tie for 42nd place at 5 over. Sophomore Betty Chen, who opened with a 72 on Friday, came back with a 1-over 73 on Saturday and is tied for 19th at 1 over. Sophomore Andrea Wong had a five-shot improvement with her second-round 74 and is tied for 61st at 9 over. Freshman Paige Lee is tied for 56th at 7 over after shooting 79 and senior Jessica Chulya is in 80th after carding an 85.

Seventh-ranked South Carolina shot an 8-under 280 to take the 36-hole lead in the team standings at 8 under. Host Arizona State, ranked sixth, and No. 3 Duke are tied for second at 2 under while No. 11 Washington is fourth, a shot below par. UC Davis is a stroke in front of No. 5 Oklahoma (+23) and four in front of No. 12 Vanderbilt (+26).

Celine Boutier, the seventh-ranked collegiate golfer in the country, according to Golf, fired her second consecutive 69 and is 6 under for the individual lead. She's one shot in front of SooBin Kim of Washington.

Vatananugulkit vaulted 15 spots on the leaderboard after a steady round. She had a birdie on her ninth hole - the par-4 18th - and then added another on the par-3 seventh to move to two shots under par. A double-bogey on her final hole was her only blemish of the day.

Chen collected three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, en route to her round of 73. Wong was 2 over at her turn but then had a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole to key an even back nine. Lee had three birdies while Chulya had a string of four straight pars.

UC Davis will begin Sunday's final round at 8:26 a.m. and will play with Oregon and Oklahoma.
