Box Score

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- UC Davis senior right-hander Evan Wolf allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings of work and the offense responded with 13 hits on the day, as the Aggies remained unbeaten at the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament with a 5-2 win over host San Jose State on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

The win was the third straight for UC Davis, which evened its record at 7-7 overall on the year. The Spartans, who mustered just five hits on the day, fell to 4-12 overall.

Wolf (1-1) nailed down his first win of the campaign with his second quality start of the year, retiring eight-straight hitters at one point and holding San Jose State to just one hit through the first four innings. Robert Parucha needed just 39 pitches to collect his first save of the season, tossing three innings of one-hit ball, walking one and striking out two, facing just one over the minimum during his time on the mound.

Myles Richard (0-1) suffered the loss in relief of starter Jonathan Hernandez, who lasted just two innings, giving up two runs on six hits and walking a pair. Richard went the final seven, surrendering three runs on seven hits and striking out three.

Seth Batty and Nick Lynch each finished with three hits on the day, but the biggest of their six combined hits came in the sixth when Batty singled to right centerfield to drive home Evan Heptig with the go-ahead run with the game tied at 2-2.

A sacrifice fly in the seventh and a run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth by Izaak Silva gave UC Davis some breathing room as Parucha retired seven straight at one point and induced Sheldon Daquioag into a game-ending double play to close it out.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by John Williams and Batty in the second gave the Aggies the early lead before San Jose State responded with two in the fifth to tie things up. Brett Bautista's RBI double broke up the shutout for the Spartans before Alec de Watteville's sacrifice fly made it a 2-2 game.

Eight of the nine UC Davis starters finished with hits on the day, including two hits from Adam Young to join Batty and Lynch in the multi-hit club.

Tyler Olivet finished 2-for-2 to lead the San Jose State offense.

The same two teams close out tournament play on Sunday afternoon (March 9) at 1 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
